About Us

The CrossFit Toledo Legacy

Since opening our doors in 2006, CrossFit Toledo has been committed to transforming lives through fitness and community. As one of the nation's earliest affiliates, we've grown alongside the global CrossFit movement, continuously adapting our approach to deliver exceptional fitness experiences to everyone, from first-timers to elite athletes.

Our gym was founded by Joe Lengel, whose passion and dedication laid the foundation for our inclusive and supportive environment. Joe's legacy continues to inspire our mission to ensure everyone—from beginners taking their first steps into fitness to seasoned competitors—feels welcomed, challenged, and empowered.

Mickey “MetCon” Porter

After years of lifting weights, marathon training, and other various fitness activities, Mickey discovered CrossFit in 2011. After a year in Denver and visiting dozens of different CrossFit boxes, Mickey returned to CrossFit Toledo, completed his CrossFit L1 training, and joined our coaching staff. As a graduate of the University of Michigan business school, Mickey works as a personal financial advisor when he is not at the gym. His passion for people led him to becoming a coach for both physical and fiscal fitness.

Jim Sutphin

Jim Sutphin began CrossFit in 2011. He completed his CF-L1 in 2018, and his CF-L2 in 2023! Right away, Jim embraced the CrossFit methodology for all the right reasons… most notably, not for being into the sport of CrossFit, but instead for the practical application to his actual life. As a member of Toledo‘s finest, Jim strives for excellence with his career, and life in general as a father of three boys. Jimmy is a role model for his family, our CFT family, and the community in general.

Kelsey Almaguer

Kelsey Almaguer became involved with Olympic Weightlifting through CrossFit. She has been active in CrossFit for 10 years, and is a USA Weightlifting certified Sports Performance Coach. She loves seeing others build confidence and makes it her mission to ensure everyone in her class has fun and feels welcomed to the supportive community at CFT! Kelsey loves seeing everyone succeed in their workouts, no matter their age, fitness level, or weight on the bar. When she’s not at the gym, Kelsey is most likely at home cuddling her dog Maxxx, or reading!

Gregory Semonin

Gregory Semonin began CrossFit in 2015, and he has a long and distinguished fitness background. Greg completed his CFL1 in 2018, and we are grateful that he finally joined our coaching staff. By day, you can find Greg keeping our military aircraft flying as a jet mechanic, or you might see him coaching baseball. But when he is not, we are glad to have him giving us his guidance and leadership.

Jason Jacob

Jason Jacob began CrossFit in 2015 and has former coaching experience with Maumee Valley CrossFit. Jason has also spent time at many different boxes, and has a real passion for weightlifting. Jason spent some time in Columbus, not only getting educated and doing CrossFit, but also learning the intricacies of weightlifting at Project Lift. We are so thankful that Jason joined our team in 2019.

Nick Almaguer

Nick started CrossFit in 2014 and quickly came to love the sport. Nick loves teaching others and helping them succeed, so he earned his CF-L1 in 2018 and USA Weightlifting L1 in 2020. The best thing about coaching, Nick says, is helping people achieve things they didn’t think they were capable of.
